The latest Census population estimate reports that 58,301 new residents moved to the Austin metro from July 2015 to July 2016, or roughly 160 new residents a day. Williamson County added 57 new residents per day and Travis County increased by 67 per day, according to the data.
The Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area was the nation’s ninth-fastest growing metro last year and the most-populated location among the 15 fastest-growing metros, according to 2015-16 data released today from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Austin metro grew from 1.99 million in 2015 to 2.06 million in 2016, an increase of 58,301 people, or a 2.92-percent increase. Of the top 10, Austin is the only area with a population greater than 1 million.
